In Brandenburg an der Havel you can literally find the water on the doorstep. The lakes and rivers appear like blue spots of color in the vast landscape. An excursion and vacation paradise in which nature sets the tone. As if made to go to sea with a raft, houseboat or canoe, explore nature parks and small villages by bike or on foot, or simply do nothing and take a deep breath while looking out over the water. Whoever is traveling here automatically becomes a cultural traveler, because culture is part of the landscape. No wonder that Berliners and their guests like to turn their backs on the city and go out into the country. Farm shops and cakes like grandma’s, rattles and frog croaks, feet in the water and wide horizons. Welcome to Brandenburg an der Havel!
St. Gotthardt Church, Brandenburg an der Havel
The parish church of St. Gotthardt can be found in the old town of Brandenburg an der Havel and bears the name of Bishop Godehard von Hildesheim, who died in 1038 and was canonized shortly before construction began on the church. Today’s church was built in the 15th century as a three-aisled Gothic hall church in a brick building. Due to its diverse and rich interior, such as the pulpit and the unicorn carpet, the St. Gotthardtkirche is one of the most important religious buildings in the Mark Brandenburg. The sandstone pulpit is a work by Georg Zimmermann from Nuremberg and was manufactured in 1623. The nave is dominated by a triumphal cross group. The late Gothic carving, around 1500, uses the motif of the tree of life. The altar dates from 1559 and the program of the Reformation is unfolded in the individual pictures. In the choir aisle you will find late Gothic figures, which presumably come from altars of the earlier church. People have been coming to the St. Gotthardt Church for church services and church music events for 800 years. Visit the St. Gotthardt Church and you may feel the life of faith in the past and the present. Vicco von Bülow (Loriot) was baptized in this church in 1923.
We book a city tour in the footsteps of Loriot’s forest pugs and a small organ concert in the baptismal church of Loriot St. Gotthardt for your group. But also other highlights in and around Brandenburg an der Havel!
