Guided Tour: East Berlin with a Travel Book Writer

Let’s meet at the Weltzeituhr or World Time Clock on Alexanderplatz. Once the heart of the GDR, here we’ll see East Berlin’s showpiece buildings, including the iconic TV tower.

East German architecture

As we continue on foot to Karl Marx Allee, the GDR’s Champs-Élysées, I’ll explain the history of the GDR – how it came to be, how it functioned and how it disintegrated with the fall of the Berlin Wall. We’ll visit the key sights of Cafe Moskau, Kino International and Straussberger Platz, before stopping by the Ostel, a hotel where the German Democratic Republic lives on. After typical Ossi drink in its cafe, we’ll a) continue via public transport to a hidden spot where East German architecture remains untouched or b) continue with a trip to a store that sells the vanished products of a land no longer in existence.

An extraordinary tour for school trips to Berlin, your team event or company outing.
